BALTIMORE HOST CITY FOR NATIONAL EVENT
USA DANCE 2014 NATIONAL DANCESPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS
1,000 of America’s Top Ballroom Dancers To Vie For National Titles, Placements on USA World Teams
BALTIMORE, MD – Approximately 1,000 of America’s highest-ranking ballroom and latin DanceSport athletes will compete for national championship titles in Baltimore, Mar. 28 – 30, 2014, at the 34th annual USA DANCE National DanceSport Championships, to be held at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel and organized by USA DANCE, Inc., the National Governing Body for DanceSport in the United States.
Event organizer USA Dance is the official USA member organization of the U.S. Olympic Committee and of the 92-country World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).
The USA Dance Nationals will host both the annual National Championships and for the first time the World DanceSport Federation’s Open World Ranking Tournament for the Under-21 Division. This prestigious and dynamic three-day sports event has two sessions daily. Matinee sessions start at 8 am until 5 or 6 pm; evening sessions start at 7 pm and conclude around 11:30 pm.
Tickets are available to the general public, and a sell-out crowd is expected to attend. Tickets can be purchased at registration for the matinee sessions, but tickets for the evening competitions and shows should be purchased online to assure availability of seats. The website is www.usadancenationals.com or interested attendees may call 646-734-9666.
DanceSport is an official sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee, and USA Dance joins the global movement to bring DanceSport to the Olympic Games, one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. DanceSport is already commanding crowds of 16,000 in attendance at events, such as The World Games 2013 in Cali, Colombia and The World DanceSport Games in Taiwan. (The United States DanceSport athletes competed at all of the World Championships and Games in 2013.)
Ken Richards, DanceSport VP of USA Dance, says the World DanceSport Federation is optimistic of DanceSport’s future bid and acceptance into the Olympic Games, pointing out that, “At the Sochi Olympics 2014, currently underway, 400 DanceSport athletes were invited to participate in the Opening Ceremonies, as 500 athletes performed at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics Games. In addition to The World Games and The World DanceSport Games last year, DanceSport was an official medal sport at the Asian Games in 2010. Progress is being made.”
The USA Dance 2014 National DanceSport Championships is the official National Championships for competitive amateur ballroom and latin dancing, attracting world-class judges and world attention as America gains presence in global DanceSport.
Competitors must qualify in the top 65% of their respective divisions at one of 11 USA Dance-sanctioned National Qualifying Events held in the U.S. prior to the National Championships.
